CSIR Internship Opportunity: Finance (Two Positions)

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is offering two Finance Internship positions within its Accounts Payable department, based in Pretoria.

Internship Overview

The finance interns will be responsible for preparing and processing financial transactions in compliance with CSIR policies, legislation, and deadlines. Their key tasks will include invoice verification, processing payments and receipts, reconciliations, governance and compliance, financial service delivery, and providing support to the finance team.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Processing

• Verify and process supplier invoices accurately.
• Ensure compliance with VAT requirements, approvals, and financial coding.
• Process payments and receipts while ensuring banking details and legislative requirements are correct.

Reconciliations

• Prepare supplier reconciliations to detect outstanding amounts.
• Improve communication with suppliers to prevent fraud and financial losses.

Governance and Compliance

• Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with CSIR policies.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
• Comply with month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.

Stakeholder and Service Support

• Address and resolve stakeholder queries promptly.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance team.
• Foster a culture of customer service and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Skills

• A National Diploma in Accounting or Finance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and VAT principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of financial regulations, governance, and compliance.
• Good interpersonal skills and teamwork ability.
